Dear Valuable Customers;

ISU is pleased to announce that the Internet service has not suffered any noticeable effect due to the cable cut in the submarine cable occurred in Wed 30 Jan. 2008 at the Mediterranean sea that affected the rest of Saudi Arabia, and that's because ISU has a policy of adopting multiple international lines at Layer 2, which increase the service survivability.

May 23, 2003

The regrettable earthquake which struck Algeria recently resulted in the severance of multiple international data communication lines linking the Middle East, some Southern European countries and North Africa to the global Internet. Internet service was severely impacted in all of those regions because of that occurrence.
As for Saudi Arabia, at roughly 1:00am Thursday Morning 21/3/1424H corresponding to 22/5/2003, four of the five International links provided by the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to the Internet Services Unit (ISU) were severed due to the aforementioned earthquake. This lead to the entire Internet traffic of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia being carried by a single overloaded international link to Japan. The unavoidable outcome of this was slow browsing for all of Saudi Arabia due to the congestion of this single line.
The STC, which is contractually responsible for providing these international lines and maintaining them in joint coordination with a number of international carriers, began searching for ways to restore service to the downed lines. By Friday night, slightly before midnight, the STC was finally able to bring two of the four damaged lines back online. The addition of these two repaired lines to the existing line to Japan resulted in full service being restored (without redundancy). This is considered a temporary solution as it deprives the ISU of the redundant capacity it needs to provide stable service, however the STC assures us that they are working diligently to restore the redundant capacity as well very soon.
